The Director of the Institute is Member of the
Academy of Sciences of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia),
Doctor of Engineering, Professor
Igor N.Chersky
The staff of the Institute consists of 51 people, including
22 research workers, 2 Doctors of Sciences, 11 Candidates of Sciences, and 1 Honored
Scientist of the Yakut Autonomic Soviet Socialist Republic. The Institute comprises 6
scientific divisions.
Year of foundation: 1987 - scientific-research center North, as a
member of the Institute of Physico-Technical Problems of the North Yakut Scientific Center
of the Siberian division of the USSR Academy of Sciences, 1990 - the Institute of
Nonmetallic Materials of the Siberian Division of the USSR Academy of Sciences, (from 1991
- the Institute of Nonmetallic Materials of the Siberian Division of the Russian Academy
of Sciences).
The Institute's major scientific interests are:
- fundamental and applied research on arctic tribology;
- development of scientific bases for creation of polymer and composite materials
for Arctic conditions.
Applied research: development of seals and sealing materials for Northern
engineering; elaboration of recommendations and technical and economic assessment for
development of manufacturing of polymer materials and products; development of
recommendations and scientific and technical assessment for application of polymer and
composite materials for pipeline transportation; development of production and application
techniques for diamond tools on organic bond; development of antifriction materials;
development of technology and equipment for production of small-scale building materials.
Valuable contribution to the development of main concepts of arctic tribology, and of the
engineering climatology of polymer, elastomer, and composite materials, was made by
