The staff of the Institute consists of 152 people, including
9 Doctors of Sciences, 31 Candidate of Sciences, and 78 research workers.
The Institute was established in 1980.
Directors of the Institute: The first Director of the institute,
from 1980 to 1986, was Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Hero of Socialist Labor,
Nikolai V.Chersky. From 1986 to 1995 the Director was Victor L.Yakovlev, Corresponding
Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Sakha
Republic(Yakutia), Doctor of Engineering. From 1995 till the present the Director of the
Institute is Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Sakha Republic(Yakutia), Doctor of
Engineering, Professor Mikhail D.Novopashin.
Essential contribution to the development of mining engineering of the Sakha
Republic (Yakutia) was made by Doctors of Sciences A.U.Beilin, G.V.Artsimovich, D.P.Senuk,
A.E.SIeptsov, V.N.Skuba, V.S.Yakupov, V.U.tzakson, A.V.Tsygankov, S.A.Batugin,
M.I.Bychev,and others.
The Institute's major scientific interests are the following:
- study of heat and mechanical processes in the massif of
frozen rocks and creation of effective methods for exploration of Northern deposits on the
basis of control of these processes;
- development of scientific foundations of the complex managemeint of mineral-raw
material resources and extraction of useful components from deposits in the permafrost
field.
