History The year 1920 saw the establishment of the Russian Drama Theater as a result of which an amateur Yakut group was founded. In 1925 it turned into an independent theater. On October 17 a firstnight of The Fiend by N. Neustroev took place. This date is considered to be the theater’s birthday. A. Sofronov, a poet and playwright, one of the founders of the Yakut literature took a position of the first director of the national theater. D. Bolshev, the organizer of the Viluisk amateur theater has been invited to be a stage-manager. But the professional producer was S. Grigoryev, who had been working in the theater since 1933 till 1958. In 1934 a name of Platon Oiuunsky, a public figure, scientist, linguist, founder of the Yakut soviet literature is given to the theater. In 60-70s F. Potapov headed the theater. He staged a number of interesting performances forming the main theater repertoire. In 1983 Andrey Borisov starts working in the theater as the artistic director. The current theater repertoire includes thirty performances by Yakut playwrights, Russian and foreign authors not only for grown-ups but also for children. There are works by William Shakespeare, King Lear, A Midsummer Night's Dream; Carlo Goldoni, The Servant of Two Masters Nikolay Gogol, Marriage; Anton Chekhov, Seagull; Chingiz Aitmatov, The Beloved Blue Shore, The Mother’s Field Ìustai Karim On The Night of Lunar, etc. In 1995 the Theater is given the academic degree, since then it is called the Oiuunsky Sakha Academic Theater. In 1996 the Theater graduated the first class of the arts studio at the Republican College of Arts and Humanities. In 1997 the theater participated in the Teacher and Scholars Festival in Moscow. In 1998 the King Lear staged by Andrey Borisov took part in The Baltic House International Festival, St. Petersburg. Nowadays the theater troupe involves graduates of five generations of the Tshepkin Moscow Theater College under the Small Russian Theater. Among them are A. Ivanova, M. Gogolev, A. Kuzmina, S. Fedotov, S. Borisova, E. Stepanov, merited actors of the Russian Federation. The theater holds rehearsals on new productions and is planning to have tours in the Republican uluses and Russian cities. In 2005 the Theater celebrates its 80th anniversary. |
